You may consider our MSS Montessori Infant Class for your 6 years older. Although they are still at the tender age, they are ready to achieve all the important milestones in different aspect of their development with the support, guidance and help of our Montessori teachers at MSS, and their growth can be really impressive!

Question 1: What do babies do and learn in a Montessori classroom, and what abilities will they develop?

A: MSS’s Infant & Toddler classes are for children aged 6 to 18 months. From 6 months old, the child will gradually learn to sit independently, crawl forward, crawl with four limbs, stand with support, walk with support and walk independently. In the MSS Montessori environment, children are able to fully develop their gross motor movements.

Secondly, children are exposed to all the languages in the infant class. At MSS, teachers provide them a rich bilingual environment.

Although they are still young and do not yet have the ability to express themselves with language tool, the language output relied on the richness of the input.

Therefore, the MSS Montessori environment help children lay the foundation of this “language pyramid”.

Thirdly, children will gradually achieve independence in a respectful and loving environment at MSS.

Although he will not be able to do much for himself or for others, he will first establish his will to be independent.

In a respectful and equal environment, we respect the development of each individual. Adults and children are equal, and we respect children’s bodies and choices, and support them by following their will.

Over time, children will gain a self-awareness: I can, I am capable, so that through their own self-motivation, they will drive themselves to challenge the next “possibility”.

Children who grow up in this environment tend to develop faster than children who grow up in a family environment, and this “speed” is visible right in front of us.

For example, you can see Kira in the video above, he came to MSS when he was 7 months old. At that time, he was not able to climb, but just to sit. But he is less than 12 months old now. He can already walk on his own, and eat by himself almost independently.

Traditionally, we think children don’t walk until 12 months, and some still stagger at 13 or 14 months. However, Kira’s development is obviously faster than the average pace, which is sufficient to show how strong the support has been receiving from the Montessori environment at MSS.

Question 2: What is the difference between a Montessori environment and at home, and what kind of guidance will the teacher do to help an infant?

With all the stereotypes as an adult, we always think that young children are not capable of many things, and adults need to provide them with almost everything.

However, this idea “stops” us from the getting the opportunities to observe that children are actually capable of many things.

In addition, although parents may read a lot of books and learn on our own before having children, the cases in the books are different from the actual individual situation of each child, and every child is unique in their pace of development and behaviors. Parents usually have neither sufficient knowledge nor professional experience to tell which stage the child is going through.

Thirdly, in the society today, our families are relatively abundant in terms of materials, and there is no shortage of the so called educational toys for intellectual development at home, but because parents usually do not know the development stage of children. Those toys are usually provided at the wrong time, so they cannot provide educational support. And children may also experience inappropriate developmental challenges – which is either too easy so the child may not get interested, or too difficult, so again they are not interested, and may even develop fear towards difficulties, so they throw tantrums and misbehave.

Therefore, for all the above reasons, parents may not understand their children’s behaviors, and feel frustrated when communicating with children, considering that they have a bad temper.

However, in the Montessori environment at MSS, our teachers are professionally trained with many years of experience working with young children, and they can tell the child’s developmental stage and interests based on his or her behavior and state, and can provide child with appropriate support, both physically and psychologically.

It is precisely because the teacher can accurately observe the child’s developmental characteristics and stage, and provide appropriate support and positive responses, that the child can smoothly transition from one stage to the next and reduce unnecessary “conflicts”.

Therefore, you will also find that children in the family will be prone to tantrums, but in the MSS Montessori environment, this happens very rarely, children are emotionally stable, and they are very mostly calm and feel very comfortable in school.

Young children, who are in a very positive phase of life. Although there are many things that he can’t accomplish for the time being, or he has done it well, his growth is achieved by his own continuous efforts.

It is impossible for us to directly help the child learn to walk, everything depends on the child to learn it by himself, and this must be based on his own strong will and the fact that he can freely explore these two conditions. This is what Maria Montessori always emphasized: the motive/driving force of life!

MSS has always been committed to creating a diverse, inclusive, respectful, equal, cooperative and warm Montessori environment for children
