In Dr. Maria Montessori’s educational philosophy, children’s freedom to explore and learn through firsthand experiences is key to their development.
On this special day, MSS campuses have arranged a rich array of exciting themed activities that align with children’s life experiences.
These activities aim to help them understand the origins of traditional customs, appreciate the unique allure and artistry of traditional culture, pique their interest in these customs, and foster cooperation, creativity, and enhanced aesthetic appreciation.
Minhang Campus
Minhang Campus welcomed parents to join their children in celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Together, they crafted handmade mooncakes and engaged in artistic creations, listening to enchanting picture books related to the festival. The children’s hands were a flurry of activity, unleashing their creativity and imagination in the Montessori classroom!

To infuse a festive spirit, Mid-Autumn decorations adorned the campus a week in advance. On the eve of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the campus buzzed with excitement as children hung lanterns and solved riddles, immersing themselves in the joy of this traditional festivity.

WHQ Campus
From snow skin mooncakes to a variety of creatively shaped mooncakes, the teachers at WHQ Campus guided the children in crafting their own mooncakes. These engaging, theme-based activities beautifully embodied Dr. Montessori’s ideals of “independence” and “self-motivation.”

Beyond mooncakes, when one thinks of the Mid-Autumn Festival, Chang’e, the Moon Goddess, naturally comes to mind. “Chang’e” made a special appearance at WHQ Campus, capturing cherished moments with the young ones.

The campus showcased many other delightful aspects. Take a look at these moon-shaped lanterns and small fans, all meticulously created by the children during their art classes!

Xuhui Campus
In today’s world, modern fashion prevails, but “traditional attire” always holds its unique allure. To honor the Mid-Autumn Festival, the entire staff at Xuhui Campus donned traditional Hanfu attire, with even the children dressing in this timeless fashion. This, indeed, is the traditional attire for the Mid-Autumn Festival! The campus was momentarily transported to ancient times.

Teachers decorate the campus with flowers and artwork to welcome the children.

The day was filled with activities – making mooncakes, ring toss games, pot throwing games, DIY folding fans – each fostering the children’s hand-eye coordination, gross motor skills, social interaction, teamwork, and innovative thinking.

Some Reflections in the End
Dr. Maria Montessori advocated for an experiential learning approach.
Every sincere experience and careful observation by the children continually fuel their curiosity. These firsthand encounters, rooted in real life, ultimately transform into invaluable experiences and wisdom.
Creating a genuine Montessori environment for our children is both our duty and our unwavering commitment.
During this special Mid-Autumn Festival, MSS extends heartfelt greetings to all families, MSS alumni flourishing around the world, all staff, and their families.
Wishing everyone a joyful Mid-Autumn Festival!
