The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of our traditional festivals, symbolizing reunion, happiness, and harvest. It presents a perfect opportunity for the Nebula School to integrate Chinese traditional culture into Montessori education.

Listening to stories, watching performances, crafting, and tasting delicious food—our talented teachers have carefully designed a variety of activities. These multi-sensory experiences immerse children in the rich traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival, fostering their understanding and interest in traditional culture. They also inspire creativity, self-expression, hands-on skills, teamwork, and strengthen their sense of cultural identity and pride.

To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, the children joyfully made snowy mooncakes and decorated their mooncake boxes. We encourage them to explore the textures and colors of the materials, fostering keen observation, creativity, and hands-on skills, while deepening their appreciation of the festival’s traditions.

As children make mooncakes, they explore diverse shapes, characters in stories, as well as the significance of the festival, sparking their curiosity and sharpening their observational skills.

Montessori education highlights the importance of family and the spirit of teamwork. Through traditional games like lantern riddles, pass-the-parcel, and pot-throwing, children experience the fun of working together as a “big family.”

Wow! The appearance of the beautiful “Chang’e” added a classical touch to the campus! Children also had the opportunity to appreciate the elegance of traditional customs through her presence.

Making mooncakes is always the highlight for the children! We encourage them to take an active role in the process, exploring the shapes, patterns, and symbolism of mooncakes. By using different tools and materials, they refine their fine motor skills while sparking their creativity and imagination.

The teachers also introduced Mid-Autumn Festival riddles for the children to solve. This added an extra element of fun to the activities and encouraged the children to be creative and think actively.

We also encourage children to use simple words to express their feelings of missing and sending good wishes to family and friends. This helps them develop gratitude, emotional awareness, and empathy. At the end, everyone came together for a group photo to mark the celebration of reunion!
