With 20 years of experience in Montessori Education, MSS has always advocated for children to experience real and natural materials. The environments in the Montessori classrooms respect individuality, help children to find their interests and build independence, autonomy, and self-confidence.
Autumn is the harvest season. In October, the MSS campuses are full of Autumn spirit, and the children are experiencing the harvest. The children are growing confident and experiencing the joy of growth in this golden season.
01 Let’s explore the life cycle of a pumpkin from a Montessori perspective!——From Minhang Campus
Pumpkins have always been one of the most popular seasonal themes at MSS.
This week the Minhang Campus was full of cute pumpkins, and the children had fun activities all about pumpkins.

The teachers work with the children and observe the pumpkin: the pumpkin has a skin, a tip, flesh, and seeds; the pumpkin is golden yellow; its skin, some smooth, some rough; its flesh is soft. The pumpkin seeds are big. Bigger than watermelon seeds, and ripe pumpkin seeds can be eaten!

The pumpkin grows on the vine, not in the ground, it flowers, bears fruit and decays. Through the observation of natural science, children develop a concept of the pumpkin and learn the life cycle of a pumpkin. At the same time, the five senses are engaged in the exploration of the pumpkin.

The teachers hide pumpkins on campus and let the children find them. The children are happy and feel accomplished when they find a pumpkin!

Through learning about pumpkins, the children participate in practical life, language, and math activities.
Pumpkins often appear on our dinner table. Teachers work with the children to make pumpkin pie, pumpkin cake, or pumpkin tarts.

The children read books about pumpkins, learn pumpkin poems, and enjoy songs about pumpkins.
How can we learn about pumpkins without math? The teachers prepared pumpkin activities using one pumpkin, two pumpkins, three pumpkins …

Did you know that by learning about pumpkins we can bring all areas of the Montessori curriculum to life?
02 The WHQ Campus uses the five senses for the children to experience the Montessori fun!——From WHQ Campus
Wacky Wednesday is a famous picture book by Dr Seuss. The main character wakes up on a Wednesday morning full of confusion: everything is wrong! Children who read the book will find hilarious mistakes on every page, laughing out loud as they read.
The WHQ Campus held a unique Wacky Wednesday event. The children wore mismatched costumes, humorous hairstyles, and funny accessories. Wacky isn’t weird, and here at MSS, wacky is creative!

These wacky ideas are inspired by real life, and at the same time, there are new and creative. For example, children wear matching socks every day, but on Wacky Wednesday, you can wear a blue one and a red one, which creates a color contrast!

These creative inspirations coincide with our Montessori classrooms and materials.
Dr. Montessori once said, “Nothing that comes from the intellect in humans comes from the senses.”
At MSS, our Montessori materials help children recognize concepts such as shape, weight, height, size, length, and color, all of which are relevant to children.
Creativity emerges through reflection and the child’s mastery of rules and order and deconstructs and reconstructs on that basis. It may seem that the child’s creations are wild and unpredictable, but in fact, there is a clear logic.

The Montessori environment and materials help children to understand the laws of life and nature, use their imagination, and create unlimited masterpieces!

03 Decorate and color the daily life of Montessori!——From Xuhui Campus
Children naturally love to dress up and imitate their favorite characters. At the Xuhui campus for Dress Up Day the children put on their favorite costumes and became their favorite characters.
Dressing up is only part of the fun – the children celebrate in a real environment and enjoy real activities.

Montessori Education encourages children to be in real environments and to use real materials as much as possible. Fake, non-functional materials can frustrate children and make them feel that they are not “good enough”.

Real people and materials make life more interesting!
Modelling is a real profession, let’s be models together and organize a fashion show!
Pumpkins are crops – they can be eaten, make decorations to create, color, and draw a smiley face! If there is a square inch, you can start creating!

After the creation, we move our little hands, clean up the materials, and get the environment back in order in no time!
At MSS, we adhere to the Montessori philosophy: to prepare children for the real world by developing an understanding of the world around them. Children understand that their words and actions will produce corresponding results, reinforcing the sense of self-care.

In Conclusion
Montessori Education is child-centered and dedicated to helping children build their self-confidence, self-esteem, respect for others, and their ability to become independent individuals.
Montessori is not only an educational philosophy but also a way of life. Each child is unique and possesses great potential. Montessori education helps children to reach their full potential and become focused, responsible, respectful citizens of the world, and lifelong learners.
Thank you for your continued support of MSS!We look forward to more families joining the MSS Montessori community. At MSS, children are independent, confident, and happy!
