Time has swiftly passed, and here we are again, on this particular day: September 21st, the International Day of Peace.

Dr. Maria Montessori believed that peace is inherent to humanity, serving as the bedrock of our existence in this world.

It is through education that she endeavored to unearth and nurture the innate peaceful essence within children, guiding them to comprehend and respect others. This way, children would mature in an environment of peace and, as adults, become significant forces propelling the world towards enduring peace.

Teachers, in this role, become entrusted as “peace ambassadors.”

Through the activities of International Day of Peace, the teachers at MSS hope that each and every child can deeply grasp the significance of peace, and learn to embrace themselves and others with love and respect.

WHQ Campus

In a serene and warm atmosphere, accompanied by the opening words of two teachers, the International Day of Peace activities at WHQ Campus commenced.

What does “peace” mean? Helping others, rescuing small animals, tending to plants… In the hearts of a thousand children, there exist a thousand unique interpretations of “peace.”

We invited the children to articulate their personal understanding of “peace” on this festive occasion.

Draped in pristine white attire, the children joined their voices in a harmonious rendition of “Light a Candle for Peace,” thereby extending heartfelt wishes for peace…

Moreover, each class embraced the theme of peace, embarking on various creative endeavors such as art and crafts, photography, and painting. The teachers adorned the school with the children’s creations, allowing them to express their concepts of peace through artistic innovation.

Xuhui Campus

On September 21st, at Xuhui Campus, the activities commenced to the melodious strains of songs.

MSS places great importance on perpetuating Montessori principles within the family. The children will carry these cards home, allowing their parents to share in their children’s concern for global peace.The children personally crafted roses and affixed them to small cards, resulting in the creation of distinctive commemorative Peace Day cards!

Within the campus hall, a Peace Table was set up, featuring cards showcasing the distinctive clothing and attributes of the children’s respective countries, regions, and ethnicities. While appreciating these cards, the children also engaged in card matching activities, deepening their comprehension of the concept of peace.

Within MSS classrooms, a designated Peace Table (or corner) is established. When children encounter differences of opinion, teachers guide them to the Peace Table, encouraging them to express their thoughts and emotions and ultimately promoting mutual understanding and increased tolerance.

Minhang Campus

As the joyous voices singing “Light a Candle for Peace” filled the air, the children at Minhang Campus illuminated candles of love and peace through song, celebrating the International Day of Peace.

Under the guidance of their teachers, the children learned and sang this poignant song, and they also engaged in creative activities such as finger painting peace doves, crafting peace bracelets, and reading picture books that narrate stories of peace…The teachers presented the children with 3-part cards containing vocabulary related to peace, aiding them in becoming familiar with words associated with peace and deepening their awareness of its significance.

Peace and love! Children form the emblem of peace together, and leaving behind cherished memories to perpetuate the message of peace. The bonds of friendship among the children grow ever stronger.

MSS ardently hopes that every child comprehends that peace is a universal aspiration and responsibility, transcending time, place, and circumstances.

Let us unite in setting an example of peace for the children, guiding them to love and respect life, and cherish the ideals of peace.

Together, let us contribute to the creation of a more beautiful and peaceful world!
