How to Help Children Understand The World?

Date: 2022.10.28

Editor: MSS

October 24th was United Nations Day, and the children at MSS celebrated by participating in unique UN Day activities.

We hopt that the United Nations Day is an opportunity for children to experience different cultures and learn about the societies, cultures, and customs of people around the world. Rich class lessons and campus activities enable children to understand the wider world and to appreciate cultural differences.

The world is diverse!

What is the United Nations?

Our world is composed of many countries, nationalities and cultures – just like our school. At MSS, our community has people from all over the world that speak different languages.

For UN Day, children wore costumes from different countries, waved flags from these countries, and prepared souvenirs to share with their classmates.

The children’s faces were full of joy.

In this world, there are so many different traditional costumes.

There are so many languages besides Chinese and English.

It turns out that these flags make a bright and colourful display.

Openness and tolerance, sharing and cooperation are at the heart of UN Day. There are so many “differences” in this world, and these “differences” bring the children surprises and make them appreciate the meaning of friendship.

We are all small citizens of the world!

Each one of us is a member of this planet and this world.

We respect ourselves, our families, and our friends from different countries and regions.

It is one of the values of MSS to encourage children to broaden their horizons and be global citizens. These values are in keeping with the philosophy of “respect” in Montessori Education.

There are so many different countries and cultures on this earth that make up such a wonderful world. We all have a responsibility to this planet, to contribute to making the world a better place.

Inspire The Infinite Possibilities

United Nations Day is a blend of culture, geography, science and language that provides children with diverse experiences and gives them the opportunity to discover their own interests.

A child may be particularly interested in geography, which will become their field of study in the future.

Or maybe a child with a particular talent for language will lead him to tap into more possible talents.

There may be a child with a fondness for art, who will open the door to more inspirational artistic creations.

We use what we can to light the spark of wisdom in children’s hearts and inspire their infinite possibilities.

Montessori Philosophy Delivering Multiculturalism

The United Nations are committed to maintaining international peace and security in addition to developing friendly international relations. At MSS we celebrate UN Day to give children the opportunity to learn about different cultures and the importance of working together.

In the Montessori classroom we first teach the child the Earth; we all are living on one planet together. We then move from a macro to micro approach in explaining to students where we are located.

This allows the child to understand the concepts of continents versus countries versus provinces.

Giving culture to your children is giving love and peace to the world. At MSS we are growing school culture and friendship with the founding values of peace, collaboration and respect.

All the experiences can be integrated in all Montessori areas in MSS classes such as Practical life, Sensorial, Language and Math! Every culture has so much to offer to younger children.

The song “Hello To All The Children Of The World” says it best.

Though some things may be different,

We’re children just the same-

And we all like to sing and play.

……

If we could meet each other

To run and sing and play

Then what good friends we all could be.

Although we are so different, we can, together, forge a future.

Young minds that can hold a vast world.

They are destined to shine, with love and courage.
