Nebula School, in collaboration with the Redwood Development Center, conducted a pediatric foot and leg development observation activity across its West Hongqiao and Minhang campuses: Activity Recap

The ages of 0 to 3 are a “golden window” for little feet.

Bowed legs, knock-knees, and flat feet. These terms can raise concerns for parents. In many cases, however, they are simply part of a child’s natural growth. The key is knowing when to observe and when to take a closer look. How can we better understand the true state of our children’s little feet without disturbing or interrupting them?

This past April, Nebula School partnered with the child development experts at Redwood Center to host a gentle, play-based observation session at our West Hongqiao and Minhang campuses.

No intimidating equipments. No rigid tests. Just children being children: playing, moving, and naturally engaging with caring professionals.

In just 5 to 8 minutes per child, the Redwood team quietly captured key developmental indicators through three observation modules: natural movement, standing and weight-bearing, and foot arch function. They carefully noted each child’s gait, posture, and leg coordination, all while the children remained relaxed and comfortable.

The entire process placed no pressure on the children. With familiar faces and favorite activities led by their classroom teachers by their side throughout, most children didn’t even realize they were being “observed.”

The observation and documentation for this activity were led by the child development expert team from Redwood Development Center.

All team members have professional backgrounds in rehabilitation medicine and child development, and are trained to conduct assessments in a non-invasive, child-respecting manner. Our campus teachers were actively involved throughout, offering guidance and comfort. Together, the two teams created a seamless experience that felt natural and secure for every child.

Following the activity, the expert team reviewed and analyzed the data, and provided parents with one of three types of feedback:

✅ Age-Appropriate Development: The child’s motor development is on track for their age. Continue to support their development through everyday activities.

🔍 Continued Observation Recommended: We noticed a few areas that may benefit from some extra attention. Specific home activity suggestions can be provided, along with guidance for gentle, daily support.

💌 Referral Suggested: We observed something that may affect the child’s participation in daily activities. A one-on-one consultation with the parents will be arranged to offer more targeted guidance.

This activity is part of Nebula School’s ongoing commitment to integrating medical insight with educational care. Parents could indicate their preference on the reply slip, and participation was entirely optional—fully respecting each family’s choice.
